The Interlace - Singapore

Stairs

Stairs for Section 1

  • There are 2 rooms for S.1 studio
  • After dicussing with my tutor I decided to do a little bridge connecting the 2 studio rooms but after experimenting i noticed that the bridge seemed too steep. I then changed the bridge into a small staircase (shown in the sketch above) because i think it will be safer and earsier to travel between those rooms.
  • The image above shows a staircase from ground level (gallery) to the S.1 studio of Artist 1.
  • After creating the models for the gallery space and the studio, I designed a staircase that would fit into and around the design. The image above shows the final design of the stair. It's almost like a spiral staircase going up, around, up and around again. The staircase goes through one of the studio rooms from the bottom.
  • The material used for both staircase should be something hard and solid to keep its form and structure.

Stairs for section 2

  • The image above shows the design of the bottom level staircase and its connection to the studio of section 2.
  • Section 2 studio has 2 levels. The design for both levels are irregular.
  • I wanted something simple. I thought of a straight line, then a tube and then in the end i decided on a spiral staircase.
  • The height of both levels is quite high so if did an ordinary staircase, it would be too steep or too wide/big.
